Description
Simple medieval dress Afra made of robust canvas, wine red
This loose-fitting medieval dress is made of sturdy canvas (100% cotton) and is very robust. All hems are trimmed with canvas fabric. The extra attached skirt section has dividing seams, making the flared skirt drape particularly beautifully. Side darts have been incorporated to ensure a perfect fit in the bust area. The floor-length dress can be worn as an overdress or underdress.
The robust fabric structure makes the medieval dress particularly suitable for depicting simple estates. Similar to jeans, the fabric develops an individual 'used look' over time. And thanks to the thickness of the fabric, the women's dress is ideal for the transitional period (spring/autumn). Combining the dress with a Viking apron dress/skirt (smock) or a simple apron provides a good basis for the garment, which can be supplemented with matching accessories depending on the era.
This type of loosely cut slip dress, also known as a cotte, was worn throughout the Middle Ages by both sexes as an outer or undergarment. The lady's cotte was always floor-length and had long sleeves. It was often combined with a surcot and a belt.
